Get to Know Me:
Why did you become a mental health professional?
I became a mental health professional due to a combination of personal experiences and a deep commitment to helping others. My time as a military spouse, and having family members with mental health challenges gave me a personal understanding of the significant impact such issues can have on individuals and their families. This personal connection inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to supporting and improving diverse populations' mental health and well-being.
My extensive education and work experience in various roles—from school social work to military MH engagement to behavioral health clinician—demonstrate my dedication to the field. My background, volunteer work with vulnerable groups, and continuous pursuit of specialized training underscore my passion for making a positive impact in the mental health field. I am driven by a desire to help others navigate their mental health challenges and improve their overall quality of life.
What are your interests outside of work?
Spending time with family, going to the beach, surfing, enjoying the outdoors, and making memories.
What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?
I try to take time off with family, and at the end of my day, I try to reset myself to leave work at work and be present for my own life.
What book have you read more than once?
Wild by Cheryl Strayed is a story I deeply admire for its honesty and bravery. Strayed's candid recounting of her life and its transformations resonates profoundly with me. She shares how her experiences shaped her identity, ultimately leading her to a crucial decision about who she wanted to become. Her journey of healing and self-discovery, marked by the metaphor of putting one foot in front of the other, inspires me. Strayed's ability to navigate challenges and write her story is powerful and moving.
Favorite organization/non-profit?
Habitat for Humanity is my favorite non-profit organization because it embodies the values of community, support, and transformation. The organization's commitment to providing affordable housing to those in need resonates with my belief in the importance of a safe and secure home as a cornerstone of well-being.
Having volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of their work. The collaborative effort of building homes brings together people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Working alongside future homeowners and seeing their dreams come to life is incredibly rewarding and inspiring.
Habitat for Humanity emphasizes resilience, perseverance, and the transformative power of taking small steps toward a larger goal. This alignment with my values and experiences makes Habitat for Humanity a non-profit organization I deeply admire and wholeheartedly support.
How do you recharge?
I recharge by going to the beach, hiking, and being out in nature. I also enjoy playing Settlers of Catan and Super Mario Smash Brothers with my family.
Do you have any pets?
I have two dogs: a big, black Newfoundland and a little white Pomeranian. My favorite story about them is how they love to snuggle together, looking like an Oreo with their contrasting black and white fur.
